Leadership/Adventure Trip
Be warned: Danger lurks! Dark caves, treacherous rocks, long stretches of isolated trail, steep hills, rough terrain, the dark of night, the roaring Youghiogheny River...You will carry all you need for this journey on your back, and in your heart. Choose your companions well, for they will be your teammates in this endeavor. God will meet you somewhere along the way. Who is in?

July 24-28 (that's a Thursday through Monday)
Thursday we climb and cave. We'll climb at Beam's Rocks and cave in my old hometown of Derry at Bear Cave. Friday-Sunday we'll hike the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail to Ohiopyle (about 48 miles!), sleeping in shelters along the trail. Monday we will raft the Lower Yough with guides from the Ohiopyle Trading Post. Once we're off the river, we'll get picked up and head for home. As if that weren't enough, the main purpose of the trip is to develop leaders among our students. This will be a combined trip with students from the CMA church in State College, so Don Jones and some of his guys will be with us. Andy Mylin and I will be leading the adventure portions of the trip. He and I are both Wilderness First Aid certified, so we'll be as safe as possible! Space for this trip is limited, and unless we get a gung-ho female leader to accompany us, we can only take gentlemen. If you'd like to go, please contact Stac as soon as possible. The cost will be in the neighborhood of $70.

Want to raise some cash and be part of the 4th of July action?
We have the opportunity to be part of the community's 4th of July Festival and raise a few dollars! We're looking for 12 students to man Pepsi wagons during the day of the 4th of July celebration. You will work in pairs for 3-hour shifts. We start at 2 and will finish at 11. We make 10% of what each wagon we man brings in for the day. You can apply the money you make to a future XStream Xpedition, or use the cash to pay back your folks for Camp Crosstraining. Email Stac if you are interested.

Camp Cross Training begins this week. I can hardly believe it...

Did you see the pictures from last year's camp? Here they are.

Things to bring to camp

note: Please bring and (wear!) appropriate clothing for the week. This is a week of summer camp, complete with lots of outdoor activities. Ladies, no spaghetti straps, please. The weather is always cool-to-chilly, especially in the evenings. You will want a sweatshirt of jacket to keep yourself warm. We are rafting one day of the week, so bring shoes you can get wet, but not flip flops.

You will need a signed parental release form for whitewater rafting. You can get one of those from Stac, or print it from here.

1. Bathing suit (modest, one piece only)
2. alarm clock
3. Bible
4. notebook
5. pens
6. sleeping bag
7. pillow
8. sweatshirt or jacket—it will be chilly
9. rain gear (poncho, umbrella, etc.)
10. towels & washcloth
11. shower shoes (just a suggestion!)
12. insect repellent
13. sunscreen
14. sunglasses
15. flashlight
16. camera
17. plastic bag for dirty laundry
18. socks and underwear
19. Toiletries (shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, etc.)
20. A little spending money. (There is a snack bar)

You know the things NOT to bring: guns, knives, drugs, tobacco, alien slime, bad attitudes, ELECTRONIC DEVICES (includes cd/tape/mp3 players!), farm animals, fireworks, snakes, Chinese water torture devices, and any/all illegal or offensive material. Thanks for being smart. Cell phones are permitted, just don't let them become a nuisance. You will be asked to leave them in your room during the days of camp.

Call Stac at 861-7242 or email stacy@xstream.org. You are more than welcome to bring a friend; in fact, we think that would be awesome. There will be no real program…we simply want to serve you a meal and get to know each other. Please come!
