A Camp Crosstraining Update
Greetings from the land of broken bones and changed plans!
This was to be a summer of great outdoor adventure. As many of you know, I broke a bone in my foot (the talus) last week, which complicates things a little! I believe that the Lord can heal me NOW if he so desires. If he doesn't, then I'll be a little less active this summer. :)
We are still in the hunt for people to get our students to camp. All the leaders will be heading down to Camp Saturday to set up, spend some time in prayer, and get ready for a great week. We have the Harvest Fields van (15 passengers), the Saxton van (15 passengers), and the Grand Caravan (7 passengers).
We are taking (as of right now) 37 students to camp this year (yea!), so we are looking for at least another mini-van, although another 15 passenger van would be great.
Bill and Barb Saxton are both going to drive us down to Camp (Thank you!). We need 2 more drivers to get us there, and I believe 2 to get us home Friday. Drivers for the return trip will need to leave State College around 9 so that we can be picked up around noon.
Can you help us?
Also, in order to make the trip to camp a little more roomy in the vans, we'd like to gather all the sleeping bags and pillows that we can by Saturday morning. We would like to leave for camp around 11, so if you could have the sleeping bags/pillows there by 10:30, that would be great. Be sure to mark the bags/pillows with your student's name!
Once again, our needs: :)
1. At least one minivan, although a 15 pass van would be great
2. 2 drivers for Sunday, departing after church, driving the above van and the church minivan
3. Sleeping bags and pillows can go to camp early, saving room in the vans for the ride down! Have them at the church this Saturday by 10:30, clearly marked with the students' full name.
I have been asked about the "no electonic devices" rule. We are very serious about that for a number of reasons. First, this week is about connecting with God and each other. We have found that cd/mp3 players and cell phones only distract students from the connections that God has for them at camp. The leaders will have cell phones in the event of emergencies. You can call my cell (814-280-6388) or Kim Dick's (814-280-6034) cell as often as you want (free incoming calls!) to check in and see how things are going. Another reason for leaving them at home is the somple fact that things like this always seem to walk off or get lost. Let's avoid the hassles and leave a little room for God to move. Please help us by asking your student to leave the game/phone/music at home.
We believe that this is going to be the best camp we've ever done. From the speaker to the worship to the leaders to the students, we are flat out excited!
