Camp Crosstraining 2004
Stuff To Bring…all packed in ONE BAG (I’m not kidding!)

*Permission/Medical Release Form/Rafting Permission Slip--Don't leave home without 'em!
1. Bathing suit (modest, one piece only)
2. Appropriate clothing for a week of outdoor play and camp life. Girls, please no spaghetti straps. Ladies and gentlemen, modesty is the key! Thanks.
3. water shoes or old sneakers for rafting; slip-ons will get eaten by the river!
4. alarm clock
5. Bible
6. notebook & writing implement
7. sleeping bag
8. pillow
9. sweatshirt or jacket—it will be chilly
10. rain gear (poncho, umbrella, etc.)
11. towels & washcloth
12. insect repellent
13. sunscreen
14. sunglasses
15. flashlight
16. camera
17. plastic bag for dirty laundry
18. Toiletries (shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, etc.)
19. A little spending money. (There is a snack bar)

You know the things NOT to bring: pirate swords, guns, knives, stolen vehicles, rabid chickens, drugs, tobacco, alien slime, bad attitudes, ELECTRONIC DEVICES (includes cell phones and cd/tape/mp3 players!), lava lamps, fireworks, cheese-graters, Mexican jumping beans, and any/all illegal or offensive material. We’re serious about the no electronics rule. Camp is about connecting with God, not with your favorite band or the people back home. If you have an emergency, one of the leaders will help you make a call. If you really want to talk to your friends during camp week, bring them with you! ? Thanks for being smart.
We'll leave from Calvary after church Sunday, somewhere around 12:00. Bring a few $ for McD's, or pack a lunch for the ride. Expect to make a McD's stop Friday on the way home, too. We will be home around 4 p.m. Friday.

A Camp Crosstraining Update
Greetings from the land of broken bones and changed plans!

This was to be a summer of great outdoor adventure. As many of you know, I broke a bone in my foot (the talus) last week, which complicates things a little! I believe that the Lord can heal me NOW if he so desires. If he doesn't, then I'll be a little less active this summer. :)

We are still in the hunt for people to get our students to camp. All the leaders will be heading down to Camp Saturday to set up, spend some time in prayer, and get ready for a great week. We have the Harvest Fields van (15 passengers), the Saxton van (15 passengers), and the Grand Caravan (7 passengers).

We are taking (as of right now) 37 students to camp this year (yea!), so we are looking for at least another mini-van, although another 15 passenger van would be great.

Bill and Barb Saxton are both going to drive us down to Camp (Thank you!). We need 2 more drivers to get us there, and I believe 2 to get us home Friday. Drivers for the return trip will need to leave State College around 9 so that we can be picked up around noon.

Can you help us?

Also, in order to make the trip to camp a little more roomy in the vans, we'd like to gather all the sleeping bags and pillows that we can by Saturday morning. We would like to leave for camp around 11, so if you could have the sleeping bags/pillows there by 10:30, that would be great. Be sure to mark the bags/pillows with your student's name!

Once again, our needs: :)
1. At least one minivan, although a 15 pass van would be great
2. 2 drivers for Sunday, departing after church, driving the above van and the church minivan
3. Sleeping bags and pillows can go to camp early, saving room in the vans for the ride down! Have them at the church this Saturday by 10:30, clearly marked with the students' full name.

I have been asked about the "no electonic devices" rule. We are very serious about that for a number of reasons. First, this week is about connecting with God and each other. We have found that cd/mp3 players and cell phones only distract students from the connections that God has for them at camp. The leaders will have cell phones in the event of emergencies. You can call my cell (814-280-6388) or Kim Dick's (814-280-6034) cell as often as you want (free incoming calls!) to check in and see how things are going. Another reason for leaving them at home is the somple fact that things like this always seem to walk off or get lost. Let's avoid the hassles and leave a little room for God to move. Please help us by asking your student to leave the game/phone/music at home.

We believe that this is going to be the best camp we've ever done. From the speaker to the worship to the leaders to the students, we are flat out excited!

Entrepreneur Richard Branson has set a new world record by driving across the English Channel in an amphibious sports car in under two hours.

Some people have too much money and too much time on their hands. On the other hand, this would make a pretty cool ride to school, wouldn't it. Craig Kilborn said, "You know who would love this car? The Lord Jesus." Hmm, maybe. I'll bet Jesus had a lot of laughs with his friends. But Jesus didn't need a car-boat to get across the water, now did he?

Hey cool, God gets to stay in the Pledge

Good news, boys and girls, the Supreme Court ruled 8-0 that the words "under God" will remain in the Pledge of Allegiance. Justice Scalia did not vote. I'll bet God is mad at him! (Just kidding, you know...)

Boundless Magazine has a great article from Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn’s commencement address to Harvard University, June 8, 1978. His comments on Western society are true, maybe more true and telling than they were 26 years ago.

A few XStream thoughts
As the school year winds down, many of you (OK, 8th graders and 5th graders) are asking when you can move up to the next level. The answer is June 23. That's right, 2 short weeks.

XStream Seniors
There are many students graduating from high school who attend Calvary, and we want to congratulate them all. I want to especially thank those seniors who have been a regular part of XStream. We love you, seniors!

Camp Crosstraining registration deadline has been extended!
We have decided to extend a little grace (everybody needs a little grace, don't ya think?) to those of you who are still trying to get your registration for Camp Crosstraining in. We'll be heading to Jumonville June 27-July 2 for a great week of worship and teaching, recreation, and fellowship. The food's not too shabby, either! Here's a link to pictures from previous Camp Crosstrainings. Once you're at the photos, you can actually see photos from 2000, 2001, and 2002.

The cost is $250 through this weekend. After Sunday, the cost will be $270. We would love to have you come camp with us. It is a great chance to get away with some good friends, experience God, and get refreshed.

I wil be posting a list of gear you'll need for the week here in the next few days.

ps...does anyone know this camper???
